September 7, 2012
By John Speer - Editor , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

The addition of Officer Andrea Young has brought the Toledo Police force back to a full roster of five full-time members. Young began duties last week.

She said the opportunity to serve in Toledo gives her a chance to work in community policing, become more a part of the community itself and gain more experience in law enforcement.

The new officer spent the last two years as a member of the Belmond Police Department. Prior to that she served as an officer on the Ottumwa Police Department.

Young, 28, is a graduate of Iowa State University, Ames, with a B.A. degree in Criminal Justice and the Iowa Law enforcement Academy.

Prior to becoming a police officer she served in a college internship program at Walt Disney World, Orlando, Fla., for six months and interned for a year with the U.S. Probation Department of Southern Iowa for a year.

She grew up in Dubuque before moving with her parents, Greg and Lynn Young, and three younger brothers and sisters to Clive in 1998. She graduated in 2002 from Valley High School in West Des Moines.

When not on duty Young said she enjoys running, playing frisbee golf and caring for her dog.
