He attended country school and Primghar Public School. He started driving truck at an early age and continued operating and owning semi's his entire life. He traveled all over the United States. He loved to sit and visit with friends at the truck stop regardless of where it was (pick your state and town). He owned horses and drove his team for many years along with many family trail rides. He enjoyed going to the chuck wagon races and rarely missed one. He also had tractors restored for classic tractor rides.

He was married to Maxine Lockie Shafer on July 22, 1969. Maxine passed away on Aug. 1, 2011. Lee was late for his own wedding with Maxine, but made up for it with a life well shared.

Lee is survived by his son, Jack Ebel of Manly; daughter, Rachel (B.J.) Halterman, Des Moines; two step-sons, Dennis Shafer and William Shafer both of Mason City; three brothers, Jim (Bonnie) Ebel, Aurelia, Iowa, Robert (Shirley) Ebel, Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Ben (Connie) Ebel, Primghar, Iowa; sister, Linda (Butch) Bergendahl, Spencer, Iowa; eight grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, son James Ebel and step-son Douglas Shafer.
