MARSHALLTOWN The Iowa Valley Community College District (IVCCD) Board of Directors approved a one-year contract with the Iowa Valley Community College Education Association (IVCCEA) faculty union when it met this month. The contract calls for a 4 percent total package increase, with 3.61 percent of the increase designated for salaries.
It was noted that the agreement includes establishing study committees during the coming year to look at credit loads for vocational/technical instruction, possible revisions to student course evaluations, health insurance provisions, and updating/correcting language in the master agreement. The IVCCEA includes faculty from Marshalltown Community College, Ellsworth Community College, and Iowa Valley Grinnell.
Dr. Chris Duree, IVCCD Chancellor, discussed the District's recent Baldrige application, submitted to the Iowa Quality Center last week. He explained that development of the document, which has occurred during the past year, becomes part of the institution's accreditation and continuous quality improvement process. The document, which is a more thorough self-analysis than the District has done in the past, will be reviewed by IQC examiners, who provide detailed feedback and conduct a site visit in October.
In other matters, the IVCCD Board: approved an agreement for transfer of credits with the University of Northern Iowa; approved revisions to a policy on bereavement, personal leave and family catastrophic leave in keeping with changes to the IVCCEA master agreement; approved a construction agreement under which the MCC Construction Trades students will build a 1,502 addition on the home of Walter and Jan Wilkinson during the 2012-2013 academic year; approved a lease agreement with Buena Vista University for offices, conference room and classroom spaces in Marshalltown and Iowa Falls; and approved a one-year agreement with the Iowa Department of Agriculture & Land Stewardship for joint operation of the state metrology lab on the ECC campus.
Several gifts were received by the Board, including: 32 dresses valued at $2,208 from The Bridal Sweet to the Orpheum Theater Center; $250 from Lennox Industries for the Iowa Valley Leadership 2012 class project; costumes and office supplies valued at $6,795.75 from Mary and Tom Curley to the Orpheum; a letter from Jean Seberg to Ed Lang from Jo Lang to the Orpheum; a wireless router from Chris Winnemann to the Orpheum; and $2,000 from the Marshalltown Convention & Visitors Bureau for the IVL 2012 class project.
