Jech receives endorsements for State Senate

August 20, 2012
Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

Congressional Candidate Ben Lange and Senator Jerry Behn attended a fundraiser in Marshalltown last Wednesday evening for Jane Jech, Iowa Senate Candidate, at the home of Tim and Mindy McMahon. Iowa House Candidate (Dist. 71), Allen Burt was also in attendance.

Previous to Jech's event, Ben Lange was in the city of Tama, door knocking with volunteers in a coordinated effort between their campaigns and Dean Fisher's (Iowa House Dist. 72). Both Jech and Lange commented on how pleased they were to be working together in an effort to reach voters directly. Lange also discussed his own campaign for Iowa's new Congressional District #1. He said his primary motivation for running for office was "his three little girls who now owe the federal government $150,000 dollars before they can even ride a bike" due to national debt.

Senator Behn is currently the Leader of the Senate Minority Party, with hopes of winning at least two seats this fall to reclaim the Majority. He talked about the frustrations of having many very good pieces of business legislation and more blocked by Senator Gronstal and others. He said Senate rules were changed in recent years to make that possible. Jech is challenging democrat incumbent, Steve Sodders, of State Center for the District #36 Seat. Behn said that Jech "will make an excellent Senator" and he encouraged everyone in attendance to do whatever they can to help her get elected.

Jech talked about her many hard working volunteers and her experiences while knocking on doors, something she really enjoys, even on the really hot days. She said, "Even if we disagree on some issues, I learn something new and we're often able to have positive discussions. I'm very encouraged by the responses I'm receiving at the doors."

A small business man in attendance at the fundraiser stated that he went from having a medium sized business to a small one a few years ago and he is quite certain he wouldn't even be in business were it not for Governor Branstad and the hard work he put into making our state business friendly. Jech is looking forward to providing whatever is needed to move good legislation forward to make our state even more job-friendly.
