Saturday August 4th at the Eagles club in Tama, folks gathered to celebrate President Obama's 51st Birthday.
Folks were greeted by a decorated patriotic hall, done by Cheryl, Gomer and Jeannie, and our special guest, President Obama [cardboard image]. John Meyer of Tama took pictures of the folks with the President and when developed will be sent to the White House in D.C.
The beautiful patriotic cake, by Becky Cline of Tama, was served with ice cream by Beth Lamb of Chelsea. Jeannie Sieck of Toledo, baked chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chunk cookies and sugar cookies decorated with pink lemonade frosting, all the President's favorites.
Howard Manos of Toledo and John Meyer, showed videos of the President's speeches from 2008-2009 and His video of 2012, "The Road We Traveled". Some short videos of events put on by Tama County community folks, brought back many special memories including "Yes We Can".
These videos generated lively discussions about Taxes, the Farm Bill, Education, Jobs, Equal Rights and Fairness for all Americans. High School students expressed their views on education, funding for college and health care and how it affects their parents and themselves as they ready for college.
TCDP Co-Chair, Mary Jo Cheverny of Toledo, reminded folks of the Wind Up Festival in Traer this weekend the 12th and invited all to the CC Meeting Wednesday the 8th at the Tama Civic Center around 6:30pm. Some topics on the agenda will be, opening of a Democratic office, where and when, and sharing the building with OFA. The unity of the two organizations will show that anything is possible when you work together. Greater Together! To help now for this election year, vote early.
Volunteers will be needed to manage the office, answer the phone, sign up people for early voting, register folks and set up events. I'm sure there will be a "clean-up day", "organizing and decorating" day and an "open house" day, that all are welcome to help with. Just contact Co-Chairs, Mary Jo and Glen Sailsbury. It's always a fun time so join us.
Folks signed birthday cards and wrote short greeting to the President and all will be sent to the White House D.C Folks took home prizes, stickers, buttons, dog tags, flyers, and stuff from the "yard sale" table.
It was enjoyable to visit with friends and neighbors and celebrate the President's special day.
This event was hosted by member of TPOH Community Service Group.
Until next time, be kind to yourself and others.
