STC School Board readies for the 2012-13 school year

The South Tama School Board acted on a variety of annual operational issues at a meeting at the Partnership Center on Monday evening, July 30.

Board members Michelle Yuska, Ron Hala, Jackie Dvorak, Mark McFate and Anne Michael were present.

Kim Gardner was reappointed as board secretary and Joanna Hofer as board treasurer for the 2012-13 year. President Michelle Yuska read the oath of office to both officers.

Superintendent Kerri Nelson recommended naming depositories Chelsea Savings Bank in Chelsea, State Bank of Toledo and Pinnacle Bank, both in Toledo and Lincoln Savings Bank in Tama all with upper limits of $6,000,000 each.

Timberline Billing Services handles the billing aspects of the schools Medicaid eligible activities at a cost of six percent of the school's net Medicaid reimbursement. Several additional responsibilities have been added to the Timberline account, virtually a start to finish Medicaid reimbursement claiming and record keeping at an additional two per cent in cost.

Approval was given for the school to participate in the Federal Nutrition Program. This is renewed each year.

Handbooks for the Elementary, Middle School and High Schools were all given consideration and approved, also the Activities Handbook was approved.

Anderson Erickson was approved for the milk bids. Requests for bids had been sent to Swiss Valley and Roberts, though neither of the two companies returned bids.

Bids were mailed to two vendors for bread and only Sara Lee (Earthgrains Baking Companies) responded. Their product meets all requirements for the school's nutrition program.

The Education Northwest contract was approved. This is a 6+1 Trait writing workshop and will be at a cost of $9,250. This will be from July 1 through September 30, 2012.

Personnel

Contracts approved were for Marlys Upah, high school prom sponsor at a salary of $663 effective the spring of 2013;

Jeremy Jones, Dean of Students effective Aug. 1, with a salary which will be additional five contract days; Melinda McDowell head 9th grade volleyball coach, effective Aug. 1 at a salary of $2120; Corey Kroeger, bus driver effective Aug. 22, at $25.60 per hour, three hours a day; Clint Werner, elementary evening custodian, effective August, 2012, at $11.54 per hour, eight hours for 260 days; Sharon Manfull, special education aide for the Elementary building, effective Aug. 22, at $9.96 per hour, seven hours for 186 days; Jerry Bisher will be .4 strength training coach(one of four) effective Sept. 20, at a salary of $1696; Dmitriy Shklyarov as head boys soccer coach, effective Jan. 20, at a salary of $3,339; and Levi Hunerdosse, head 8th grade football coach, effective Sept. 20, at a salary of $2,014.

Resignations were accepted from Andrew Christensen, 8th grade boys basketball coach, Steve Chyma 8th grade football coach; Nathan Shepard, drop out prevention coordinator; and Levi Hunderosse, assistant 8th grade football coach.

The board reviewed several policies Monday evening giving the okay for the second reading on the following: policy 405.03, Classified Employee Contracts, 405.2 Classified Transfer in Assignment, 405.0095 Classified Suspension and/or dismissal, 405.09 Classified Resignation or Release of Contract, 405.61 Classified employee compensation, 405.17 Classified employee absences with loss of pay, Deletion of 405.16 support staff extended disability leave, deletion of 430.45 substance abuse, deletion of 401.30 support staff/classified employee and 605.41 graduation requirements were all aproved.
