Tama County Supervisors met Monday, July 30 with County Engineer Lyle Brehm who told supervisors that to his knowledge there were no road-related problems with RAGBRAI.
Brehm said while they had to make preparations before they came through, the bulk of these preparations were necessary and were merely timed differently.
The road crew is back to blading again trying to take advantage of the rain received last week. The crew has completed spraying for thistles and are now cutting brush.
The Bridge Crew is working on a bridge on B Avenue south of Highway E49. The bridge needed pile replacement.
He should have the announcement for taking bids on the Garwin shed ready for the newspapers this week.
Reshaping work on 365th Street east of Highway 63 is being done. This will probably take another week, depending on weather.
Most likely the county road crew will start roadway shoulder work soon.
The plan is to start working on Highway E64 starting Tuesday, Aug.7.
Also, Brehm presented a set of plans for replacement of two bridges on V37 north of Dysart. Benton County is preparing the plans. Bids will be received in October. Construction will most likely take place early next spring.
Bridges Are Bid
Bids were received in Ames for replacement of three bridges. There are two separate contracts. One contract for $153,950 is for replacing a bridge on 370th Street west of Highway T47 in Highland Township.
The other is for $272,519 and is for replacing two bridges near the end of the Columbia stub road, one on 340th Street east of H Avenue and the other on H Avenue south of 340th Street.
Each of the three bridges will be replaced with a large box culvert.
The Board approved both contracts, however they will not be signed until all papers have been completed.
