"We're excited to be here," said Paul Nowasell last week at his new Tama-Toledo Ace Hardware Store on the north side of the downtown Tama business district. "We're here to stay."
Nowasell was greeted on Thursday by members of the Tama-Toledo Area Chamber of Commerce and welcomed to the local business community.
The Ace Hardware Store at 419 State (U.S. Highway 63) occupies the 16,000 square foot location of the former Super Valu grocery store. Nowasell, of Grinnell, said he had driven by the closed location for a number of years traveling to and from his children's athletic events and began to seriously consider it as a second location for his business about two years ago.
Tama-Toledo Area Chamber of Commerce members welcomed new Tama-Toledo Ace Hardware owner Paul Nowasell and employees on Thursday, July 19. On hand were (left to right) Brian Sokol, Tama County Investment Services, Donna Princehouse, State Bank of Toledo, Nancy Sund, Tama-Grundy Publishing, Cassie Sokol, T-T Area Chamber coordinator, T-T Ace employees Brenda Young, Shane Manfull, manager, Nowasell, Rachel Wynia, Devin Lacina, Tom Hill, and Matt Zmolek, Independent Insurance and Mark Wesely, Pioneer Hi-Bred.
He has operated Paul's Ace Hardware, 820 West St., in Grinnell, for the past 25 years.
His Tama location has undergone extensive remodeling including a completely new store layout. Shane Manfull, Toledo, is the store manager and five employees.
"It's a full-line store, first and foremost," Nowasell said. There's a big selection of electrical, plumbing and hardware items, paint and supplies, lawn and garden equipment, kitchenware and tools.
