There will be a hunter education class held on August 2 and 4 at the Pioneer Hi-Bred International plant in Toledo. This will be the last hunter education class offered in Tama County this year. If you or someone you know needs to take this class, this is the time to do so. Do not procrastinate; enroll now.
Resident and non-resident hunters born after January 1, 1972, must satisfactorily complete a hunter education course in order to obtain a hunting license. A person who is 11 years old or older may enroll in a course, but those who are 11 and successfully complete the course shall be issued a certificate of completion which becomes valid on that person's 12th birthday.
All students will need to pre-register at the Pioneer plant office in Toledo between 8 a.m. and 4:15 p.m., Monday through Friday. The student will pick up a manual at registration that must be completed prior to the first night of class. When the student registers for the class, he/she will need to have their full name, birth date, address, phone number and social security number. All students will be required to attend both class sessions and take a written exam in order to pass the class.
The class will be held on Thursday, August 2 from 5:30-8:30 p.m., and Saturday, August 4 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. On Saturday afternoon the students will have live firing at the Ike's Shooting Range west of Toledo. Students will need to bring a lunch and drink on Saturday. It will be a working lunch hour. Parents will need to pick up their students at the Ike's Range at 2:30pm Saturday.

The Ike's Tract shooting range west of Toledo will re-open under new rules on August 3, 2012. Persons interested in shooting at the Ike's Tract shooting range west of Toledo need to attend a mandatory meeting on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at 7:30pm at the Otter Creek Lake nature center.
There will be a short presentation on range rules and a question and answer period. Persons who want to use the range will pay a fee. In return, they will get a key and range use card. The fee will be $40 and will cover the period from August 2, 2012 to December 31, 2013. The fee will be $30 annually starting January 1, 2014. The range will be closed August 4, 2012 for the above mentioned hunter education class to utilize the range.
