The Tama area's finest pies will be up for a taste test Friday night as the big two-day Tama Sesquicentennial Celebration kicks off. First there's an old time pie judging contest sponsored by the Tama American Legion Auxiliary.
A pie and ice cream social at the Tama Civic Center follows the judging.
Two musical groups, Hyway Home and REHTEK will provide live entertainment in front of the Civic Center on Friday night so be sure to bring lawn chairs.

There is also a street dance kicking off the festivities in front of the Eagles Club on Friday night.
On Saturday morning events begin with a pancake breakfast at the Tama Fire Station from 7-9 a.m. served by the Fire Department and Ambulance Service members.
The Tama American Legion and Tama-Toledo Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct a flag raising ceremony at 9 a.m. at the main stage.
Just some of the other Saturday events include a big railroad display in the civic Center Auditorium, Old Time Power Show, bingo at the 2nd Hand Store and a free meal sponsored by the City of Tama from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m.
There will be lots of food and refreshment booths including Pork Producers, Beef Producers, Dreesman Buffalo Ranch, Mom's Ice Cream, Parker's Barbecue, lots of local groups with popcorn, water, soft drinks, mini-donuts and more.
The list of entertainment ranges from live music throughout much of the day, crafts, contests, Meskwaki Woodlawn and Morningstar Native american dance groups, kids water fights, Just for Kix dancers, kids tractor pull and much more.
The Sesquicentennial will be topped off by a gigantic fireworks display over Cherry Lake on Saturday night.
