Letter to the Editor:
We are writing this letter in regards to the Tama City Council considering passing a Total Burn ban in our city.
We are pleased we have access to the city brush pile, recycling bins and the yard waste roll off next to the re-cycling bins.
We feel the City of Tama has gone above and beyound to provide easy access to these facilities.
If everyone would use these facilities provided, we would not need a Total burn ban ordinance!!
Pass an ordinance not allowing the burning of yard waste, if someone still burns yard waste, give them a stiff fine, if they don't pay, arrest them, they willingly broke the law!
We have a burn barrel that we only burn paper in. We also have a small fire ring in our side yard that we cook over and enjoy a fire with family and friends.
We have had a fire ring in our yard for over 40 years and no one has ever complained.
Why should we have to give up our enjoyment, in our own yard,L because of a few people who are apparently, consistantly, inconsiderate and unneighborly!!
We ask the Council to not pass a Total Burn Ban Ordinance, punish the offenders, not the entire community.
If a total burn ban is passed, our family tradition of 50 years of having good times and good food with family and friends around our fire ring, in our own yard, will be gone forever.
We await the Tama City Council's decision on this matter.
