Before Judge Ian K. Thornhill-

Avis Jolene Bear, pled guilty to assault on a peace officer causing injury. She was fined $315 which court records state was suspended for good cause. Bear was also sentenced to 18 days in jail with credit for 13 days already served.

She was directed to pay sheriff's jail fees up to $60 per day.

Bear was charged on June 5 for allegedly assaulting Toledo Police Officer Brian Randall while in the booking area of the Tama County Jail in Toledo. Randall suffered an abrasion on his right arm according to the charge he filed.

Before Judge Sean W. McPartland-

Derek Darwin McCoy, 18, Toledo, pled guilty to possession of marijuana, 1st offense, on certain real property. He was given a deferred judgement, directed to pay a $315 civil penalty and placed on self-supervised probation for one year.

McCoy was charged with possession of marijuana on school property on Feb. 15 by Tama Police Chief Dan Wilkens.

Before Judge Mitchell L. Turner-

Theresa Lin Handsacker, 43, LeGrand, pled guilty to two counts of credit card fraud. She was sentenced to two year prison terms which were suspended on each count, fined a total of $1,250 and placed on probation for two years to the 6th Judicial District Department of Correctional Services.

Handsacker also was directed to pay restitution totaling $22 to the Meskwaki Trading Post, rural Tama, and $76 to Casey's General Store in Toledo.

Handsacker was charged with using a credit card she knew was stolen to charge gasoline purchases at the two businesses on Oct. 2, 2011. Tama County Deputy Sheriff Joe Quandt filed the charges.
