Iowans turning 100 sought for special recognition

Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on Aging and the Iowa Department on Aging are conducting a search for people who will be turning 100 years old to be honored by the office of the Governor.

Any Iowan who turned or will turn 100 between Oct. 7, 2011, and Oct. 6, 2012, qualifies for this milestone recognition. New centenarians will be included in the Iowa Centenarian Registry. Centenarians that are new to the registry will be invited to be honored guests at the 2012 Centenarian Honors Celebration being held Oct. 23 in Des Moines.

"Last year 15 people were recognized from Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on Aging's 10 county service area," said Janna Diehl from Hawkeye Valley. "Each newly registered centenarian receives a certificate signed by the Governor."
