South Tama's boys soccer team picked up one more win last week before its season ended Monday in regionals.
The Trojans traveled to Grinnell on Monday for its first-round regional contest. Grinnell won the game 8-1, ending the Trojans' season.
Last Thursday, South Tama played at Northern University High and came away with a 3-2 overtime victory. NU High scored twice in the first half as it took advantage of the strong wind at its back.
STC fought against the wind and also scored twice late in the first half. Alex Martinez earned an assist after a pass to Adrian Castanon resulted in a goal at the 31st minute.
The Trojans had multiple shots that couldn't get in the net until the 38th minute of the game. Castanon crossed a ball to Dwayne Johnson, who redirected it midflight for the goal.
The score remained tied at 2-2 until overtime. NU had the wind at its back, but STC wasn't going to be denied this game. Six minutes into overtime, Castanon passed a ball to James Lares, who was running up the left sideline. Lares crossed the ball to Erik Barajas, who headed the ball into the net for the golden goal and an STC 3-2 victory.
