The South Tama Middle School eighth grade boys track team took the NICL West Conference crown on May 11 with a strong team effort.
The Trojans racked up 129 points in the season finale to out pace AGWSR by 19 points.
"We had a great season and the boys really wanted to end it right," head coach Levi Hunerdosse said. "I am very proud of our whole team and expect them to have continued success as they move on to high school sports."
The Trojans collected three first-place finishes. The STC 3,200-meter relay team of Dakota Vodochodsky, Blake Keller, Jaret Probasco and Mitch Thede won in a time of 10:10. The distance medley team, consisting of Brandon Miller, Carter Moore, Victor Chavez and Vodochodsky, ran 4:24. Blake Keller was victorious the 1,600-meter run in 5:17.76.
Contributing second-place finishes were Ruben Garcia in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet and 1 inch; Justin Suchanek in the 200-meter hurdles with a time of 28.31; and the sprint medley team of Gavin Haughey, Kyaus Davenport, Moore and Thede with a time of 2:01.35.
In addition to the first- and second-place finishes, South Tama had seven third place, four fourth place, three fifth place and four sixth place finishes. The eighth grade Trojans won six of the seven meets they competed in and finished second in the lone meet they did not win.
