South Tama girls tennis lands runner-up at NICL championships

WATERLOO - South Tama sent four to the finals on its way to a runner-up team finish at the NICL girls' tennis conference meet.

STC sophomore Emily Martin was a two-time conference champion on Monday as she won at No. 2 singles and teamed with Madison Baack to win No. 2 doubles.

Martin went 3-0 in singles, including a 9-7 win over Kellen Koch of Dike-New Hartford in the semifinals. In the championship, Martin was an 8-3 winner over Jayne Wiarda of AGWSR.

At No. 2 doubles, Martin and Baack took an 8-6 match in the finals.

The Trojans' Kendra Bradley finished second at No. 1. Bradley defeated Ellen Swartz of South Hardin 8-3 in the semifinals. Ashley Dohlman of Aplington-Parkersburg took an 8-1 decision in the final against Bradley.

Baack advanced to the No. 3 singles final after an 8-5 win over Emily Dwyer of Dike-New Hartford. Bri Pruisner of A-P was the No. 3 champion after an 8-6 win over Baack.

Aplington-Parkersburg had 58 points for the team crown, edging South Tama (53). Dike-New Hartford was third (48), while Union and AGWSR both scored 44 points, followed by South Hardin (39).

Sarah Holtz of STC was third at No. 4 singles, Alexandrah Walker seventh at No. 5 and Tori Appelgate fifth at No. 6.

The Trojans' No. 1 doubles group of Bradley and Holtz finished third, while Walker and Appelgate were fourth at No. 3.
