The South Tama Middle School seventh grade boys track and field team placed second out of eight teams at the North Iowa Cedar League meet Friday.
Grundy Center won the meet with 103 points. STC scored 85 to hold off AGWSR and Gladbrook-Reinbeck, who scored 83.5 and 79.5 points, respectively.
The Trojans won two events and placed six other events in the top three. Both victories came on relays. The STC 4x100-meter relay team ran 57.13 to win its race. The relay team members were Daniel Mendoza, Elias Garcia, Kyle Kucera and Kolbie Clark. The other victory was in the shuttle hurdle relay, which won in a time of 1:13.95. Relay members were Clayton Rosenberger, Garcia, Riley Davenport and Clark.
Placing second in their events were Davenport in the high jump (4 feet, 9 inches), Clark in the 100-meter hurdles (16.72 seconds) and the 4x800-meter relay team of Jonathan Luna, Rosenberger, Hunter Filloon and Jarett Morris, which ran 11:11.48. Finishing third were Mendoza in the 200-meter dash (28.55), 800-meter sprint medley team of Nathan Weiss, Skyler Steuhm, Kucera and Mendoza (2:10.51) and the 1,600-meter sprint medley team of Weiss, Jonah Bearden, Morris and Onel Valdez (5:16.09).
STC placed fourth in three events. They were Weiss in the discus (85-10.5), Davenport in the 400-meter dash (1:05.86) and Davenport in the 200-meter hurdles (31.1). Finishing fifth were Kucera in the shot put (26-5) and the 4x400-meter relay team of Rosenberger, Filloon, Kucerea and Luna (4:52.7), while placing sixth was Luna in the 800-meter run (2:46.36) and Filloon in the 1,600-meter run (6:15.16).
