Letter to the Editor:
Citizens, are you aware that less than 2 percent of the Tama County population aid with putting up the U.S. flags at the cemeteries on Memorial Day, led by the American Legion and Auxiliary?
It's just one day out of the year to honor our loved ones, ancestors and friends who died in conflicts and wars it's not to honor war, but those that died in those conflicts and wars; those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
Have you forgotten the meaning and traditions of Memorial Day?
Before you start your three day weekend plans this year, won't you consider volunteering your time this ONE day? (It would help ease the load on the 70+ aged volunteers.)
Because the American Flag represents the U.S. and Memorial Day is for celebrating all of the veterans who sacrificed their lives in war, come help honor our Tama County veterans.
What a great family tradition you could start and positive value to instill! Look soon for the time/location to meet in the papers.
You'll discover there is nothing more meaningful then to walk in the quiet of the morning's dawn amongst those lying still beneath and see OUR flags "breathe" to life the memory of the fallen ones.
