Taylor Van Dyk and the South Tama girls' golf team went out and made a statement with their play in the final regular season date on the schedule.
Van Dyk shot a 73 to win individual medalist honors by nine strokes and the Trojans won the team title on Saturday at the South Tama Invitational.
The senior Van Dyk's 3-over at the par-70 Tama-Toledo Country Club included three birdies, nine pars and nothing over a bogey. Van Dyk shot 36-37 for the day's low round.
South Tama finished with a team score of 343 for top honors in the seven-school event. Grinnell, No. 1 in Class 3A in the latest Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association rankings, was second at 349. Newton finished third (379) and Vinton-Shellsburg fourth (390).
Each of the top six individual scores were from either STC or Grinnell. The Trojans' Paige Van Dyk was third with an 84, while Kourtne Smith was sixth with her 89. Paige Van Dyk had her best-nine her second time through on Saturday with a 40. Smith shot 42 on her first-nine.
Jenn Maus and Tanya Halverson both shot 97 for South Tama.
North Tama finished with a 465 team total and the Redhawks were led by an 111 by Jayde Vogeler.
The Trojans began the postseason with a Class 3A district meet on Monday in Ames. Joining South Tama at the Ames Country Club was Ballard, Gilbert, Iowa Falls-Alden, Nevada, Union, Vinton-Shellsburg and Waverly-Shell Rock. Results will be in the Tama News-Herald on Friday.
