The South Tama eighth graders placed second among nine teams on its home track, in a meet hosted by GMG on April 27th.
BCLUW's eighth grade girls won the meet with 123 points. STC's eighth graders were second with 110, while the Trojans' seventh grade team finished third, scoring 73 points.
The eighth grade field events competed well, yielding 37 points. Placing for the Trojans were Madie Bacon - first in the high jump (4 feet, 6 inches), Tieranny Keahna - first in the shot put (29-4) and second in the discus (69-9), Belle Tyynismaa - second in the long jump (14-8) and Ryan Roberts - second in the discus (60-11).
Top individual running results included Tyynismaa - second in the 100-meter dash (14.1 seconds) and Tavian Lasley - second in the 1,500-meter run (5:56).
The Trojans relays were also successful. Those results included the 4x800 relay (Natalie Stadler, Kallie Halla, Socorro Mendoza and Madie Bacon) - third, with a time of 12:27; distance medley (Brooke Keller, Marilyn Anaya, Belle Tyynismaa and Tavian Lasley) - third, with a time of 5:18; 4x200 (Natalie Stadler, Socorro Mendoza, Jordan Knowles and Marilyn Anaya) - third (2:17.14); print medley (Socorro Mendoza, Kallie Hala, Dani Stubbs and Belle Tyynismaa) - second (2:11.1); and the 4x100 (Brooke Keller, Mindy Ryan, Maria Fonseca and Madie Bacon) - third place (1:02.4).
South Tama's seventh grade squad also had a solid meet. The Trojans placed first in two relays and two relays. Raena Lasley won the 1,500 run, while Jensen Vodochodsky took first in the 800-meter run for the Trojans.
The 4x200 relay team of Lexi Dreesman, Courtney Anderson, Lauren Yuska and Heavan Berinobis won its race. The other first-place relay was the 4x800, which included Yuska, Heavan Berinobis, Vodochodsky and Lasley.
STC finished second in two races. Berinobis took second in the 200-meter dash and the Trojans 4x100 relay (Ashley Thomazin, Dreesman, Shae Slaven and Anderson) also finished runner-up. Placing third in their events were the shuttle hurdle relay (Allison Yuska, Megan Skyberg, Jordyn Thompson and Lauren Yuska) and hte sprint medley relay (Dreesman, Anderson, Allison Yuska and Lasley).
South Tama's 4x400 relay (Carina Chavariia, Ellie Cervantes, Mahala Doyle and Thompson) finished fourth in its race. Placing sixth were Allison Yuska in the 200-meter hurdles and the distance medley (Shayla Peshel, Thomazin, McKenna Knock and Chavariia).
The girls ended their season with the conference meet Friday.
