Funeral services for Nora Rosland Manley-Cheek (Arhalokoche) were held Monday, April 16, 2012 at the Thlopthlocco United Methodist Church in Okemah, Okla. Interment was at the Trickey Cemetery. A wake service was held Sunday, April 15, also at the Thlopthlocco Methodist Church.
Nora Rosland Manley-Cheek (Arhalokoche), 93 of Okemah, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at her home in Okemah. Nora entered this world on July 27,1918 in Okemah to Susie and Siah Manley.
Nora attended Tiger Flat School and was a lifelong member of the Thlopthlocco United Methodist Church. She was the oldest surviving member of the Thlopthlocco Tribal Town prior to her death and her Clan family is Bird. Nora was also an employee of the Thlopthlocco Tribal Town for many years. She was a cook for five years for the Cooperton Valley School in Coopertown, Okla. In May of 1976, Nora became a Medical Care Aid and remained so until her time of retirement. Nora was a devoted mother and grandmother and was loved by all of her children, grandchildren and family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Siah Manley and Susie Foster and husband Weaver Cheek (Arhalokoche); sisters, Ella Mae Jimboy, and Emma Lou Duncan; step-sisters, Alice and Veida Foster and grandsons, Kenny Lyn Bunner, Shawn Derrick McGertt, Michael Weaver and Eric Weaver.
Nora is survived by her 10 children; Wanda Weaver of Sapulpa, Julia Langan of Stillwater, Sormy Cheek of Perkins, Mary McGertt of Glenpool, Cindy (Sam) Yahola of Tulsa, Brenda (Victor) of Tama, Iowa, Grace Bunner of Okemah, Perry Cheek of Okemah, Nina (Phil) Ozment of OKC and Tim Cheek of Okemah; and one sister, Elizabeth Trickey of Okemah. Nora was very proud and blessed by each of her 26 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers were: Bryan McGertt, Jarin Cheek, Cody McGertt, Keith Bunner, Jared Bunner, Kevin Yahola, David Haney, Travis White, Jonathan Cheek and Aharon Cheek.
Honorary bearers included: Sam Yahola, Phil Ozment, Victor White, Bob Reilly and Lance Warn.
Services were under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah and officiated by Rev. Edwin Jimboy, Rev. Randy Colbert and Rev. Victor White.
