STC Middle School boys track squds win meets

The South Tama Middle School boys track teams has a successful week on the track recently. The squad took first place at the Hudson Relays on April 24th and first place at GMG's Jr. High Meet three days later.

"We had a very successful week," head coach Levi Hunerdosse said. "All of the boys competed very well and we had a lot of personal best times."

The Trojans competed as a combined team at the Hudson Relays. The seventh grade and eighth grade teams joined forces to score 150 points. The two blue ribbon winners for the night were Colson Frakes taking first place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:28 and the 4x800 team of Dakota Vodochodsky, Colson Frakes, Blake Keller and Jaret Probasco with a time of 10:06.

STC had a plethora of second-place finishes that helped boost them to first place in the team standings. Red ribbon winners included Lane Votrobeck in the shot and discus; Justin Suchanek in the long jump, 10 flight hurdles and 200 meter hurdles; and relay teams in the 800-meter medley (Gavin Haughey, Kyaus Davenport, Carter Moore, and Mitch Thede) and the 4x100 meter relay (Gavin Haughey, Brandon Miller, Kolbie Clark and Dakota Vodochodsky).

The Trojans competed in the GMG Jr. High meet that is held annually in Tama on the Trojan's home track on April 27th. STC scored a season-high 201 team points and easily claimed the team title. The eighth grade squad had 11 first-place finishes along with eight second-place finishes.

First-place finishes were collected by Lane Votrobeck in the discus, Colson Frakes in the high jump and 800 run, Ruben Garcia in the long jump and 400 meter run and Justin Suchanek in the 100-meter dash, 100 meter hurdles and 200 meter hurdles. Relay teams that placed first included the 4x800 meter team (Vodochodsky, Frakes, Keller, and Probasco), 1,600-meter medley (Miller, Moore, Thede, and Vodochodsky), and 4x100 relay team (Haughey, Miller, Davenport, and Vodochodsky).
