South Tama's boys soccer won two games Saturday at the Waverly Tournament, both in penalty kick shootouts.

The Trojans finished the tournament 2-1. They opened up the day with a 6-0 loss to Postville, but they turned it around to defeat Humboldt and NU High.

Adrian Castanon and Cesar Nunez each scored a goal against NU High to help the Trojans tie the game at 2-2. After scoreless overtime periods, the game went to penalty kicks. The Trojans made all five of their kicks, winning the PK shootout, 5-4, and the game.

Making the PKs were Castanon, Nunez, Jose Alcazar, Mason Taylor and Alex Martinez. Martinez recorded assists on both goals in the game.

South Tama's final game of the day was similar to the previous one. STC scored twice during regulation and it was Castanon and Nunez who scored each goal for the Trojans. Castanon and Martinez had the assists on the goals.

Their opponent, NU High, also made two goals and the game went into a PK shootout. South Tama made four of its first five PKs. Erik Barajas had a key stop during the first five to extend the game to more PKs. STC made its next two and NU missed one, giving STC the victory. Shooting the PKs were Castanon, Martinez, Nunez, Taylor and Alcazar.

"The boys played well and we worked hard for both wins," head coach Dave Chizek said. "The Humboldt shootout was straight up and we shot well hitting them all."

The Trojans played Monday at Denver, but results weren't available at press time. Their next game is at 4:30 p.m. Friday at home against Waterloo. It's a rescheduled game from April 19.
