The South Tama girls tennis team pushed its overall record to 5-1 on the season as it downed Union Community on Monday, by a score of 6-3.

The Trojans swept the first five singles matches in order to clinch the victory, before a doubles match was ever played.

STC seniors Sarah Holtz and Sierra Old Bear were pushed to the limit as they both snatched wins in tiebreakers. Holtz faced off against Union's Bobbi Fischels at No. 4 singles. Holtz raced to an early 3-0 lead before seeing things even up in the match. In the tiebreaker, Holtz moved her opponent around the court and used a strong serve to secure a 9-8 (5) win.

Old Bear staged a comeback after being down early to Union's Kristen Brown at No. 5 singles. She played her way back into the match to force a tiebreaker. She used a consistent ground game to grab hold of the match to win 9-8 (2).

Sophomores Emily Martin and Madison Baack posted wins for the visiting Trojans at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Martin found herself even with Union's Brittany Appleton before imposing her will. She reeled off five straight games to win 8-3. Baack pounded Union's Kersten King, 8-2.

STC senior Kendra Bradley moved her overall singles record to 8-1 on the season. She downed Union's Sara Jesse at No. 1 singles, while losing just one game. Bradley used outstanding footwork to cover the court in her match. She proved to be too solid for her opponent as she won 8-1.

Union got their lone win in singles when Leah Jungling defeated STC's Alexandrah Walker at No. 6 singles by a score of 8-3.

In doubles play, STC's No. 1 team of Bradley-Holtz went the distance with Jesse-Appleton before falling in a tiebreaker 9-8 (5). Martin-Baack teamed up to defeat King-Fischels at No. 2 doubles by a score of 8-2. Union gained one more win on the night as it won at No. 3 doubles. Brown-Jungling downed Old Bear-Walker 8-4.

In junior varsity action, STC was victorious 3-2. The Trojans got a singles win from STC sophomore Caitlin Svacina, who was dominant in her match against Kylie Faber. Svacina blazed her way to a 6-0 win. STC's Tori Appelgate-Blair Bridges turned back Boisen-Scott 6-4 in doubles play. STC also grabbed a win in doubles from Taylor Muhlstein-Natasha Musgrave who defeated Dunkelbeger-Faber 6-0.
