To the Editor:
My name is Crystal Kaufman, I am the owner of Crystal's Cowlick Salon and Tuxedo Rental in downtown Tama. I am writing to you about the concern I have about local people not supporting Tama and Toledo businesses.
For the last 8 years Crystal's Cowlick and Tuxedos has donated to South Tama's After Prom Program. I believe that it is a great program for our young adults in the community. After having donated to STC's after prom program, I was disappointed that only days later a letter was sent out to parents of children attending prom for 2012 to go rent their tuxedos out of town at another business.
How many times have you heard people saying that they wished there were more businesses in our downtowns? I hear this constantly. The only way there can be more stores in our downtowns is to shop locally. Our local business owners help support our towns and want to see more growth. Locally owned businesses recycle a larger share of their revenues back into the local economy, which enriches the whole community.
These are difficult times for all of us, but can you imagine what it is like for your hometown businesses? Yet, these are the same merchants that are asked time after time to donate their services to make our community better- and they do it.
So save some time and a little gas money and check out what our local businesses have to offer first. It will be a great experience for you and will help the community at the same time.
