South Tama County Middle School's seventh grade girls track and field team hosted a home meet on Monday and finished fourth out of six teams.
Competing in the meet were Benton Community, East Marshall, Grinnell, Pella, South Tama and Vinton-Shellsburg. The Trojans won one event and placed in the top three in six others.
The lone winner for STC was Jensen Vodochodsky. She won the 800-meter run. Heavan Berinobis finished second in the 200-meter dash for STC. The Trojans also finished runner-up in the 4x200 and 4x800 relays.
STC middle school seventh grader Raena Lasley finished third in the 1,500-meter run Monday at home.
Third-place finishers for the Trojans included Analea Ordaz in the shot put, Raena Lasley in the 1,500-meter run and the shuttle hurdle relay. Placing fourth were Courtney Anderson in the high jump and the 400-meter dash, the sprint medley relay and the 4x100 relay.
The fifth-place finishers were Serena Lowe in the shot put, Sabrina Holtz in the discus, Megan Skyberg in the 100-meter hurdles and the 4x400 relay. The sixth-place finishers for STC were Berinobis in the long jump, Kaitlin Berger in the high jump and in the 200-meter hurdles.
The Trojans also competed at Benton Community last week and placed second out of seven teams. Leading the way was the 4x800 relay team of Vodochodsky, Berinobis, Lasley and Lauren Yuska, which won its race.
Runner-up finishes went to Berinobis in the 100-meter dash, Allison Yuska in the high jump, Lasley in the 1,500, the 4x200 relay and the 4x100 relay. The 4x200 relay included Shae Slaven, Shayla Peshel, Ashley Thomazin and Anderson. The 4x100 relay team consisted of Skyberg, Peshel, Slaven and Thomazin.
Placing third at the meet were Vodochodsky in the 1,500, Anderson in the high jump, shuttle hurdle relay and the sprint medley relay. Running on the shuttle hurdle relay were Allison Yuska, Rachel Wise, Berger and Lauren Yuska. The sprint medley relay runners were Anderson, Thomazin, Berinobis and Lasley.
