The South Tama County girls tennis team grabbed a tournament title at the 2012 North Polk Girls Tennis Tournament held on Saturday.
The Trojans tallied 18 total points to win. STC defeated North Polk (14.5), Audubon (7.5), Saydel (7) and Des Moines East (4).
STC was led by senior Kendra Bradley. She won the singles championship after going undefeated, while facing the 10-player field. Sophomores Madison Baack and Emily Martin finished second in the doubles competition.

Bradley received a bye in the first round after being seeded No. 1. Matching up against Aues of North Polk in the quarterfinals, Bradley used a consistent ground game to pull away to victory 8-1. In the semifinals, Bradley posted an 8-2 victory over Des Moines East's Backhem.
In the finals, Bradley's patience and superb footwork proved too much for North Polk's Ellie Stafford. Bradley secured an 8-2 victory to finish in first place. Bradley received a gold medal for her efforts.
Baack/Martin pushed their way into the doubles finals after losing only four games in the first two rounds. In the quarterfinals, the duo from STC downed Boldt/Weinman from Des Moines East 8-1. In the semifinals, they dominated Washington/Schneider of North Polk 8-3.
In the finals, the young team from STC ran into a veteran pair from Audubon. Seniors Krauel/Nielson used their experience to pull ahead from Baack/Martin to win 8-2. Baack/Martin took home silver medals to recognize their play on the day.
STC's second team entered into doubles play consisted of Seniors Sarah Holtz/Aubree McFate. The Trojans ended their day with a 3-1 record and finished in fifth Place. Holtz/McFate downed Free/Reinke of North Polk in a play-in match by a score of 8-5. In the quarterfinals, they fell to Gambrel/Smith of Saydel 7-9. The experienced duo from STC recovered to win their next two matches in tiebreakers. They beat Polson/Jones of Audubon 9-8 (6) and again defeated Free/Reinke of North Polk 9-8 (2) to finish in fifth Place.
Senior Sierra Old Bear also competed in singles play. She finished in seventh Place. Old Bear defeated Christensen of Audubon 8-5 in a play-in match. She dropped a tough 5-8 contest to eventual finalist Ellie Stafford of North Polk in the quarterfinal round. In the consolation round, Old Bear narrowly lost to Muhr of Audubon 6-8. Old Bear snagged an 8-4 victory over North Polk's Aues to finish seventh.
STC will next compete at home when it faces Aplington-Parkersburg at 4:15 p.m. Thursday.
