South Tama hosted Grinnell on Tuesday night for its fifth game in six days. The starting lineup was Luis Perez in goal, Eric Luna, Colton Quigley, Eric Rodriges and Cesar Rivera-Nunez on the back line. Mason Taylor, James Lares, Alex Martinez, and Fernando Galves at the mid-line. Forwards were Adrian Castanon and Erik Barajas. Subs for tonight were David Shadden, Tony Cervantes, Jose Ramirez, Dwayne Johnson and Jorge Nunez.

STC would have the wind at its backs during the first half and it drove the ball for a quick shot by Martinez, but it would ring off the frame. Moments later, Castanon would get a solid shot but the Grinnell goalie was there to make the stop. STC kept up the pressure the initial part of the half with good shots but unable to finish the ball into the net.

Grinnell was able to get thru the back line with a cross into the net at the 16th minute. South Tama attacked again but would come up short with shots just off target. Grinnell was able to break free and the one-on-one challenge was stopped by Luis Perez but the clearance left the ball at the top of the 18 and Grinnell was able to put the ball into the net, making the score 2-0. That was the score at halftime.

South Tama senior Erik Bajaras blocks a Grinnell pass with his right foot during Tuesday’s contest. Grinnell won the game 7-0.

The second half saw Grinnell using the wind to its advantage with a high shot bouncing over the hands of the goalie and into the net. Score 3-0. A high cross a few moments later would also find home for Grinnell. We did not get closed down on another attack from the left winger who was able to get thru the back line and find the net to make the score 5-0. Erik Barajas drove the ball deep into the Grinnell end and placed a great crossing ball that found James at the back post but his shot was to be denied by a Grinnell defender. Grinnell would finish with two more goals to make the final 7-0.

On Monday, South Tama traveled to play Gladbrook-Reinbeck. The wind was brisk from the north west at the start of the game, as we had the wind to our faces.

Luis Perez was in goal. Eric Luna, Colton Quigley, Eric Rodriges and Moises Fonseca played the back line. Mason Taylor, Jose Ramirez, Alex Martinez and James Lares played the midfield. Erik Barajas and Adrian Castanon took the forwards positions. Dwayne Johnson, Fernando Galvez and Jose Alcazar were the subs for us Monday.

GR used its size and the wind to its advantage during the first half with crossing shots at the fourth, seventh and 13th minutes of the first half to make the score 3-0. Castanon had a good look at goal at the 15th and 25th minutes, but would send the ball wide at each occasion.

The wind would also aid GR with a high shot at the 25th minute to make the score 4-0. STC would counter the attack with a nice drive, but stopped short by the goalie. GR would find our net again at the 34th minute to make the score at half 5-0.

The second half would see our drives to the GR goal, but we would end up off target most of the evening. Galvez would have a good shot attempt but it ended up just over the bar. A free kick from 30 yards out by Martinez was on target but was able to be gathered up by the GR goalie. GR would get a goal at the 66th minute to make the score 6-0.

"We are still looking to find that right combination to bring this team on the winning side of these matches," head coach Dave Chizek said.

STC has a week of practice before its next contest on Tuesday at home against Marshalltown.
