South Tama's boys golf team kicked off its season at the Grinnell Country Club on Monday with a triangular against Norwalk and Grinnell.
The Trojans had nine players compete. Each player finished nine holes. The top four of six varsity players scored for each team.
STC's varsity squad scored 209 to finish third. Norwalk won the meet with a scored of 176, while Grinnell scored 180.
"The wind was very strong out of the Northwest, which made it difficult to direct the ball," coach Nate Doran said. "The experience was great because we are a very young team dominated by freshmen and sophomores."
The STC varsity team consisted of Kolton Smith, Dalton Doyle, Trent Banes, Trevor Yuska, Taylon Anderson and Alec Hill. Smith finished in a three-way tie for first with a score of 42.
"That was a very good score considering the weather conditions," Doran said.
Donovan Horne, Aaron Bartling and Darian Taylor played junior varsity for the Trojans.
STC played at Dike New Hartford on Thursday, but the results weren't available by press time.
