High School students invited to hear Fred Hoiberg at MCC Career Expo on April 17

MARSHALLTOWN Iowa State University head men's basketball coach Fred Hoiberg will talk to more than 700 high school juniors on Tuesday, April 17, at 9:30 am for Marshalltown Community College's annual Career Expo. Hoiberg's message sets the tone for a day centered on career exploration for high school students. MCC, in cooperation with at least 10 area high school counselors and multiple businesses, welcomes students to learn about employment options for their future by hearing from the experts professionals from a variety of vocations within the community. The MCC Career Expo is sponsored by Emerson Process Management of Marshalltown.

Born and raised in Ames, Hoiberg graduated from Ames High School and then went on to play basketball at Iowa State University where he was an All-American, Academic All-American and All-Big 8 first team selection. Hoiberg graduated from Iowa State and was drafted 52nd overall by the Indiana Pacers. He played for the Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls, and finished his career with the Minnesota Timberwolves. In only his second season as head coach, Hoiberg was named 2012 Big 12 Co-Coach of the Year along with University of Kansas Coach Bill Self. Hoiberg led ISU to a third-place finish in the Big 12 Conference and a trip to the NCAA tournament, where they defeated defending national champion University of Connecticut in the first round before losing to eventual 2012 champion Kentucky in the second round.

The expo will take place from 9 am-1 pm. Students will choose to attend four breakout sessions from more than 26 career areas. The career sessions include: Accounting, Ag Science, Automotive Tech, Art, Business/Management, Computers, Construction Management, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice/Law, Culinary Arts, Education, Electrical, Engineering, English/Journalism, Graphic Arts, Machine Tool & Die, Medical and Mortuary Science, Military, Music/Theater, Nursing, Nutrition, Psychology, Science, Sports Management, Social Work, and Welding.

The public is invited to attend Fred Hoiberg's keynote address, which will take place in the MCC Student Activity Center, 3702 S. Center St., Marshalltown. Students should register through their high school counselors by April 13.
