South Tama opened its home season hosting Pella Tuesday night.
The Trojans started the game with Mason Taylor, Eric Rodriges, James Lares, Colton Quigley in defense, Luis Perez in at goalie, Moises Fonseca, Eric Luna, Adrian Castanon, and Cesar Rivera-Nunez as midfield and Alex Martinez and Jose Alcazar played as forwards.
The weather was perfect as the kickoff started the game at 4:30 p.m. Pella had the wind at its back during the first half as it pressed our defense. Pella would get five scores in the first half as we fought to adjust to their speed and passing.
Trojan sophomore Cesar Rivera-Nunez, left, calls for a pass from junior Alex Martinez during Tuesday's game at home against Pella.
We were able to mount two good attacks the first half with shots from Castanon going just wide of the goal and a corner kick that Alcazar's header was on target but was stopped by the goalie. The second half was much of the same while Erik Barajas and Dwayne Johnson rotating thru the mid and front lines.
At the 69th minute of the game, Castanon would unleash a strike from 30 yards out that the goalie initially stopped but the ball would pop free and roll into the net. The final score of the game was 10-1 in favor of Pella.
The young season has found our team working hard to find the right combinations as we press on with the season.
Our next game is at the Linn Mar tournament on Saturday where we will face Davenport Central and Linn Mar.
