Six South Tama Elementary students represented their school in the Iowa Battle of the Books Competition held in Cedar Falls, Iowa on March 20 and won second palce.
All 4th and 5th grade STC students were eligible to join the Battle of the Books club. Students had to read as many books as they could from the list of 40 books.
The BOB Club met before school to discuss the books with their coach, Brenda Husak, Teacher Librarian. Then students competed at the STC Elementary School for a spot on the six-member team by demonstrating how well they had read the books.

Mitch Knock (4th), Gloria (5th), Makala Babinet (5th), Alaria Gonzalez (5th), Diego Villavania (5th), and Skyler Steveson (5th) earned a spot on the South Tama Challengers' Team.
These students completed an 80-question written quiz and oral quiz over the 40 books they had read to earn the silver medal.
The books were purchased with a $1,000 Dollar General Reading Grant.
