Nathan Wrage of rural Gladbrook has announced that he will run for the Democratic nomination for State Representative in House District 72. This newly redrawn district includes all of Tama County, much of rural Marshall County, and Big Creek and Eagle townships in Black Hawk County.
Christina Blackcloud-Garcia, Tama, is also a candidate for the Democratic nomination in the June 5 Iowa Primary.
Wrage, 48, is a lifelong resident of the district. He attended Gladbrook High School and then Iowa State University. After working at Lennox Industries in Marshalltown for 23 years, he is currently employed by the Gladbrook-Reinbeck School District as a middle school custodian. Nathan is a former UAW member, shop steward, and secretary of the Local 893 CAP committee. While at Lennox, he was a member and president of the Lennox Employees Recreation Association.
"I've been living, working, and paying taxes in this district my entire life. Like many people, I've grown tired of the partisan rhetoric that is all too common in political debates. Too often, our laws and fiscal policies are tailored by professional lobbyists and special interests without considering whether the laws necessary or in the best interest of Iowans," said Wrage.
Nathan has had a long-term interest in wildlife and conservation issues, and is currently treasurer of the Grundy-Tama Izaak Walton League. He is also a board member and past chairman of the Tama County Conservation Board, serving since December 2007, and is a member of the Iowa Trappers Association. He enjoys hunting, target shooting, fishing, trapping, canoeing, and gardening. His indoors interests include reading and crossword puzzles.
"One of my main goals is to restart the process of bipartisan cooperation and common sense, because the mindset of 'us versus them' does little to move our state forward in a way that we can all be proud of. If either party comes up with an idea that will benefit the people of Iowa, partisan politics should not get in the way of positive progress, " added Wrage.
Nathan is married to his wife of 21 years, Jennifer Wrage. Jennifer is a teacher at Gladbrook-Reinbeck Middle School. They have two children, Angela, a freshman Presidential Scholar at the University of Northern Iowa, majoring in Biology and Chemistry with a Music minor, and is reigning Tama County Fair Queen. Tyler is a sophomore at Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School and is involved in music, speech, drama, and golf.
Wrage says he is looking forward to meeting the people of the district, and anyone wishing to learn more can contact him at (641) 473-2253 or
