Alfred John Brandt, 92, of Toledo, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown. A Memorial Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 1:30 PM at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo with military honors.
Alfred was born on October 21, 1919, in Toledo, Iowa, the son of Alfred Jens and Louise Matilda (Lorenzen) Brandt.
He served his country in the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II. He had previously farmed for seven years after his service in the Army.

He was married to Ruth Schroeder and they had three children together. On February 28, 2003, he married Doris Thorson at the Iowa Veteran's Home. During his working years, he was self-employed in all kinds of construction. Alfred enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and traveling on two lane highways.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and two sisters, Bernice Eisele and Lucille Walz Cobet.
Survivors include his wife, Doris of Marshalltown; three children. Dennis (Kay) Brandt of Macomb, IL, Nicky Slagle of Toledo, and Connie (Ron) Dostal of Marshalltown; four grandchildren, Shannon Konicek, Heather (Andy) Flint, Ryan (Sandra) Dostal, and Jessica Brandt; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Lorraine (Rex) Avery of Tama; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be directed to the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown.
