I promised last week to share my favorite movies and you have been waiting with tremendous anticipation all week long but I gotta tell ya that it isn't easy coming up with a Top Ten of all time. So with no further adieu, here are some of my all-time favorites in no particular order. Don't think too poorly of me but movies such as "Psycho" and "Silence of the Lambs" keep me glued pretty close to the screen. I don't like too much blood and gore like some of those slasher movies but these two captivated my attention. "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" was a phenomenal movie a few years back. And since I spent 32 years at the Mental Health Institute, (as an employee), it was a great movie. As a teen-ager, I loved "Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid." Actually I enjoyed most of Paul Neuman's movies, including "Hud, The Hustler, The Sting and especially Cool Hand Luke."
As a kid, "The Ten Commandments" and "Ben Hur" were favorites of mine. "Gone With The Wind" was great too, but too long for a little boy such as myself. But frankly, they probably didn't give a, ah, hoot!!! Another favorite of mine recently was "A Beautiful Mind," which captured the essence of mental illness to a tee and it was a true story. And who didn't love "Forrest Gump?" And "Titanic?" How about that old black and white movie, "12 Angry Men?" What a great movie! And speaking of the oldies, I loved those John Wayne westerns. "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" was great. John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart at their best. Speaking of those two men....how about Wayne in "True Grit" and Stewart in "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington?" Great movies of yesteryear. Of course there was also Marilyn Monroe wonderful (hubba, hubba) performance in "Some Like It Hot."
As you can see, my list can go on and on. "Apollo 13; Men of Honor; Remember The Titans; Color of Money; Pursuit of Happyness; Patch Adams; Eight Men Out; American Graffiti and The Shawshank Redemption" are just a few more good ones I really enjoyed. But here are two of my all time, all time besties------"Rudy" and "A Few Good Men." Oops, holy smokes..........forgot "The Godfather"movies!! Did any of these make your top ten? By the way, since I am quite comfortable with my masculinity, I even enjoy musicals. Love "The Sound of Music" and "Oklahoma." A favorite civil rights movie I just love is "A Long Walk Home" with Whoopie Goldberg and Sissy Spacek.
Now changing the subject---March Madness! The NCAA Men's College Basketball Tournament. This is our very first "The Way I See It CONTEST. Yes, Contest! With prizes! Send in to me at firstname.lastname@example.org the four teams YOU think will make it into the Final Four. Then pick from those four picks of yours, the two teams you think will be in the Championship game and who will be the ultimate winner. Send me your picks as soon as possible, but no later than this Saturday, March 17.
Winners will be decided by the most points you can get. 1 point for each team you correctly guess in the Final Four; 3 points for each team you pick to make it to the Final Two and then 10 points for picking the National Champion. Now, this is serious stuff and I do have some great prizes. Well, maybe great is too strong a word, but they are good prizes. Pretty good anyway.
Now just to challenge you....here are my picks-----Final Four, (Kentucky, Michigan State, Florida State, Georgetown). Final Two, (Kentucky & Florida State). The Champion, (Kentucky).
