STC teachers ask 4.35 pay, benefit hike
Base pay for new South Tama school teachers with no previous experience would be $27,000 annually or $500 over current pay under the initial proposal for 2012-13 by the South Tama Education Association- the teachers group.
They also propose in the initial offering made Monday a $40 monthly hike in benefits and to include "aging" which they define as "permitting eligible employees to advance for another year of service" resulting in teacher salary supplements to advance on the scale for an added year of service.
The South Tama School District proposed no increase in base pay on Monday, but does allow for continuation of the teacher salary supplements as also proposed by the teachers group.
The salary supplement money from the Iowa Department of Education may only be used for that- salaries.
The school district initial proposal also allows for paying the increase in the IPERS contribution of six-tenths of one percent to 8.67 percent.
A second negotiations session is set for Monday, March 5.
