Iowa Public TV announces March Festival schedule

Iowa Public Television Showcases Quality Music, Lifestyle, Iowa, and Travel Programming during Festival 2012 March 3 through March 20

Johnston, IA - Iowans who enjoy Iowa Public Television's music programming, lifestyle specials, Iowa coverage, how-to programs, and travel series will find something to love during the statewide network's annual fundraising drive, Festival, airing March 3-20.

Also on these special days, viewers will have the opportunity to support the programming and services they enjoy all year long and to help make it possible for all Iowans to continue to enjoy these programs. Special thank-you gifts, including tickets and exclusive items, will also be available.

Festival will feature new specials, in-studio celebrity guests, and classic favorites, on all three IPTV channels - IPTV, IPTV LEARNS, and IPTV WORLD. Highlights of the schedule are below, and full schedules and a list of thank-you gifts can be found at www.iptv.org.

New Iowa Public Television Productions

* Quilts of Valor - Saturday, March 3 at 3 p.m. and Tuesday, March 6 at 6:30 p.m. on IPTV. This special, hosted by Marianne Fons (of Love of Quilting with Marianne Fons on IPTV), tells the story of the Quilts of Valor Foundation, an organization that provides quilts to America's wounded veterans. Also in the special, celebrity "rookie" quilters, including Dan Gable and The Lawrence Welk Show's Mary Lou Metzger, make their first Quilts of Valor.

* Iowa Outdoors - Wednesday, March 7 at 6:30 p.m. on IPTV. In this new episode of the popular IPTV series, fly through the treetops of Dubuque on Iowa's first zipline course, explore the aquatic life of the Mississippi River at an aquarium, and hunt for morel mushroom tips with experts. Viewers will also have the opportunity to receive tickets for Iowa adventures as pledge thank-you gifts.

* Iowa's Simple Pleasures with Dan Kaercher: Season 4 Sneak Peek - Thursday, March 8 at 6:30 p.m. on IPTV. This preview of the next season of the popular series takes viewers to some of Iowa's most unique places.

* Love of Quilting with Marianne Fons - Saturday, March 10 at 3 p.m. and Saturday, March 17 at 3:30 p.m. on IPTV. This episode features new project ideas and tips for quilters.

* HEAVEN & EARTH: Mass on the Celtic Journey - Friday, March 16 at 8:45 p.m. on IPTV. In this concert, recorded in Des Moines, composer-conductor Ben Allaway tells the tales of Celtic figures from history and legend, and some of his own ancestors.

* 2012 Iowa State Dance Team Championships - Sunday, March 18 at 2:30 p.m. This program features highlights of this year's championships, held in Des Moines in December. Programs for Healthy Living

* Change Your Brain, Change Your Body with Dr. Daniel Amen - Saturday, March 3 at 6 a.m. on IPTV Dr. Daniel Amen shares 10 steps to help viewers live longer, look younger, and lower the risk of cancer.

* The Road to Perfect Health with Brenda Watson - Saturday, March 3 at 9 a.m. on IPTV WORLD and Saturday, March 3 at 6 p.m. on IPTV LEARNS. In this special, dietician Brenda Watson shows viewers how all health ailments can be linked to an imbalance in the digestive system.

* 3 Steps to Incredible Health! With Joel Fuhrman, M.D. - Saturday, March 3 at 1:30 p.m. on IPTV. Dr. Fuhrman's revolutionary health plan offers knowledge and a healthy, effective, and scientifically proven plan for shedding weight and reclaiming the vitality and good health we all deserve.

* The Blood Sugar Solution with Dr. Mark Hyman -Sunday, March 4 at 3 p.m. and Sunday, March 11 at 10 a.m. on IPTV. Dr. Hyman outlines underlying causes of "diabesity," and explains how to overcome the problem.

* Use Your Brain to Change Your Age with Dr. Daniel Amen - Wednesday, March 7 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 10 at 1 p.m. on IPTV. Dr. Amen shares simple steps to boost your brain to help you live longer and look younger.

Outstanding Music Programming

* Peter, Paul and Mary - 25th Anniversary Concert - Saturday, March 3 at 4:06 p.m. on IPTV WORLD, and Thursday, March 15 at 9 p.m. on IPTV. This 1986 special features the folk trio performing songs that were the soundtrack of a generation.

* Classic Gospel Special - A Tent Revival Homecoming - Saturday, March 3 at 5 p.m. on IPTV. This performance features the Oak Ridge Boys, George Beverly Shea, the Gaither Vocal Band, and more. Viewers will have the opportunity to pledge their support for IPTV and receive tickets to see the Gaither Vocal Band live as a thank-you gift.

* Big Band Vocalists - Saturday, March 3 at 9 p.m. and Monday, March 12 at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 18 at 6 p.m. on IPTV. Viewers can take a look back at the "crooners" and "canaries" of the 1940s in this new special.

* Daniel O'Donnell Live from Nashville - Sunday, March 4 at 1 p.m. and Saturday, March 10 at 9 p.m. on IPTV. Viewers supporting this high-energy special will have the opportunity to get tickets to an upcoming Iowa concert with Daniel O'Donnell.

* Great Performances: Phantom of the Opera at Royal Albert Hall - Sunday, March 4 at 5 p.m. and Wednesday, March 14 at 6:30 p.m. on IPTV. To mark the 25th anniversary of "The Phantom of the Opera," Andrew Lloyd Webber presents the musical in a lavish production.

* '60s Pop, Rock, and Soul - Tuesday, March 6 at 7 p.m. and Thursday, March 15 at 7 p.m. on IPTV WORLD, and Monday, March 12 at 8:30 p.m. on IPTV. This special includes pop sounds from the 1960s.

* Celtic Thunder: Voyage - Tuesday, March 6 at 8:30 p.m., and Friday, March 16 at 9:45 p.m. on IPTV. Showcasing varying styles of Celtic and Irish styles, this group performs beautiful music. Viewers who support IPTV will have the chance to receive tickets to an upcoming Des Moines concert by Celtic Thunder.

* Celtic Woman: Believe - Wednesday, March 7 at 7 p.m. on IPTV WORLD, and Saturday, March 10 at 5 p.m. on IPTV. This new chapter from the singing sensation will delight viewers.

* Joe Bonamassa: Beacon Theatre-Live from New York - Wednesday, March 7 at 9 p.m. on IPTV. This showcase of the guitar superstar gives a glimpse of Bonamassa's upcoming Iowa concert. Viewers will have the opportunity to pledge for tickets to the show.

* Idina Menzel Live-Barefoot at the Symphony - Sunday, March 11 at 6:30 p.m. on IPTV. Viewers making pledges during this new special will have the opportunity to receive tickets to an upcoming Idina Menzel concert in Des Moines.

* Big Band Vocalists - Saturday, March 3 at 9 p.m., Monday, March 12 at 6:30 p.m., and Sunday, March 18 at 6 p.m. on IPTV. This special looks back at the crooners and canaries of the 1940s, featuring the greatest vocalists of the period when they started their careers.
