S. Tama JV boys have tough losses

February 14, 2012
Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

"The past few games we have been getting beat by perimeter shooting and transition offense which we did a good job of stopping in this game. Where Dike found success was in their inside game. One of their post had 32 points, many which came from the paint," said coach Jim Hall following a 55-38 loss to Dike-New Hartford on Feb. 6.

The loss came on the heels of a narrow one to Ackley-Geneva on Feb. 3 and one to West Marshall by a bigger margin.

Against Dike-New Hartford, Austin Lowe came up big with 17 points including a pair of three-pointers. Drake Cherveny scored six with Ian Slagle, Dalton Doyle and Grant Koch chipping in three each. Kyle Stephenson, Tyler Martens and Morris Zach had two points apiece.

Zach grabbed six rebounds, Stephenson, Lowe and Cherveny had four rebounds each. Nate Hala three, Jake Herriott, Slagle and Cherveny, two, and Darien Taylor, Tristan Beyer, Anthony Keckler and Nate Hala, one.

Ackley-Geneva 31

"We stayed in the game and were only down 6 with 4 minutes to play. Ackley hit a 3 and manage to get a 1 point victory. Our effort was good," said Coach Hall.

It was a balanced scoring effort with Cherveny leading the Trojans with seven points and Lowe following with six. Slagle, Marten and Zach all scored four points with Hala and Keckler each with two and Herriot, one.

Cherveny also led in the rebound department with eight. Martens had six, Zach and Harriot, five apiece and Nate Hala with four. Three rebounds each were taken down by Kyus Hala, Keckler and Zach. Lowe had two and Taylor and Taylen Anderson, one each.

West Marshall 52

STC 17

"Even though we got beat by a substantial amount I am pleased with our defense 2nd and 4th period where West Marshall only had a 2 point advantage," said coach Hall. "We worked on defense in practice this week because of our poor showing against Gladbrook and if there is a positive to take from the game it is that defensive effort we displayed in those 2 quarters."

In that game, Cherveny led scorers with 6, Martens had 5 points Keckler, 4 and Martens 2. Herriot had seven rebounds o lead the Trojans with Martens getting five and Nate Hala and Cherveny, 3. Zach had 2 and Keckler, Beyer and Anderson, one each.
