Katelyn Behounek wins all expense paid trip to Washington, D.C.

Katelyn Behounek, a senior at South Tama County High School has been selected as a winner of an all expense paid educational trip to Washington.

She is the daughter of Kevin and Micki Behounek, rural Chelsea.

Katelyn participated in the "Know your Constitution" project sponsored by the Young Lawyers Division of The Iowa State Bar Association.

The "Know Your Constitution" project is designed to enrich student's understanding and appreciation of the Constitution.

The students participating in the project were required to familiarize themselves with Constitution related issues.

Each participating student completed a quiz and essay challenging the knowledge of our nation's founding document. After care consideration of the more than 1,500 entries, one hundred students and their teachers were selected to attend a luncheon in their honor at the West Des Moines Marriott Hotel in West Des Moines on January 6, 2012.

From the 100 finalists, five students and their teachers were chosen by a random drawing to attend the Close Up Foundation's week-long education work session in Washington, D.C. February 19-24, 2012. The work sessions are designed to develop a deeper understanding of government and the political process. This program is sponsored by the Iowa State Bar Foundation, IOLTA and the ABA Young Lawyers Division.
