The South Tama County wrestlers placed four wrestlers in the top three Jan. 14 at the always tough Bob Sharp Invitational in Ankeny.
Top-seeded Tyler Walz (2A number 3) was the Trojan's lone champion at 152. He faced off against 3A number 4 Ethan Lara of Sioux City East. Walz decisioned the 2011 Class 3A 160 pound runner-up in exciting fashion, 4-3, to claim the title.
Walz was trailing 3-2 in the final period when he scored a decisive takedown at the edge of the mat after it appeared Lara thought they were off the mat and stopped wrestling. The official had not stopped the match as Walz was still in bounds. Walz smartly kept wrestling and was awarded the takedown.

Amid protesting from the East coach, the assisting official and mat official conferred and agreed on the call. With the takedown confirmed, Walz rode out Lara for the 4-3 victory.
Trojan junior Erik Lux (2A number 7) claimed second place at 160. He lost to senior Max Krieger (3A number 5) of Mason City in the finals, 4-3.
At 106, Ben Packer pinned Tyler Powell of Des Moines Lincoln in 2:43 for third place. Moments later he was joined by Kade Steuhm who pinned Ty McGee also from Des Moines Lincoln to claim the third place spot at 113.
Luke Shope finished fourth at 126 after falling to Austin Pierangeli of Norwalk in a time of 5:31.
Levi Kaufman lost by a major decision to Tyler Stanley of Norwalk, 10-1, for fourth place.
Finishing fifth was Kyle Llewellyn at 182 when he pinned Erich Voitel of Norwalk in 2:30. Miguel Guzman captured fifth when he decisioned Tom Schieffer of Mason City, 9-5.
Finishing in sixth place was Joe Shope at 170. Dalton Vest was the final place winner at 285, also getting sixth.
Overall, the Trojans placed fifth with 121 points in the largely 3A tournament.
