Melvin Richard Cibula

Melvin Richard Cibula, 92, Chelsea, entered into eternal rest at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Friday, Dec. 23, 2011. Funeral services were Wednesday, Dec. 28 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Chelsea, with Deacon Joe Behounek officiating. Burial was at Stayskal Cemetery, Chelsea.

Melvin was born on March 14, 1919, in rural Vining to Charles and Julia (Dvorak) Cibula, and attended Eagle Nest school, York No. 4 near Vining through the 8th grade.

He was united in marriage on Oct. 3, 1939, to Maxine Wirstlin at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Chelsea. The couple made their home on the farm east of Vining before moving south of Vining in 1976 where they continued to farm.

Melvin had a deep love for his family and the land and enjoyed gardening, farming, fishing, and riding his four-wheeler to check his cows. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vining, the CSA Lodge, Vining, the Eagles Fraternal Organization, Tama, and the Tama County NFO. He was the York Township Clerk for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine in 2003, parents, sister, Violet, and brother-in-law George Dunning.

Surviving are his sons Richard D. (Sheryl) Cibula, and Duane A. (Barbara) Cibula, sister-in-law Mayme Kupka, seven grandchildren, Cynthia (Russell) Van Dee, Joseph Cibula, Dr. Susan (Jason) Simon, Dr. Charles Cibula (Bobbi), Christian (Lisa) Cibula, Michael (Kylee) Cibula, and Carolyn Cibula. nine great-grandchildren,Elizabeth (Mike) Krause, Brian Van Dee, Nathan and Sarah Simon, Zachary Cibula, Brynn and Kellan Cibula, Cameryn and Rowan Cibula and three great-great-grandchildren, Logan, Jacalyn, and Anna Krause. Several more distant relatives also survive.
