John Martin Kalmes passed away Dec. 19, 2011, in Hospice care in Tucson, Ariz.
Services will be held at East Lawn Palms Mortuary on Grant Road on Friday, Dec. 30, with visitation at 1 p.m. and service at 2 p.m. Pallbearers will be DPS law enforcement officers.
John was born Aug. 30, 1935. in Evanston, Il., son of John and Mary (Marinko) Kalmes. They moved to Phoenix, AZ. In 1945 and graduated from Phoenix Technical High School in 1953.

He married in 1956, having three children, they later divorced. He married Nancy Lee (Bidwell) Kalmes on March 11, 1964, and lived in Tucson their entire married life. He was in the Marine Corps Reserves for 13 years until joining the Highway Patrol in 1961, he worked for 13 years before being injured on the job and had to take a medical leave.
John is survived by his wife of 47 years, Nancy Lee and five children, son, Rory (Linda) Kalmes, granddaughters Chelsea (Andy) Baird, Tawney (KC) Skidmore, great grandson Trevor Baird, great granddaughter Kylee Baird, all of CO, daughter Robin (Bobby) Gauthier, grandsons Dustyn Gauthier (fianc Suzie), and Daniel Gauthier all of Tucson, daughter, Debbie (Paul) Klevberg, daughter Denise (Mike) Roosendaal, son, Brian (Lisa) Williams all of WA, along with several grandchildren & great grandchildren, brother, Norman (Patti) Kalmes, sister, Marilyn Roberts, 3 nieces and 5 nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Mary Kalmes and his brother-in-law, Butch Bidwell in 2009.*
