Warren "Jockey" Roth, 90, of Tama, formerly of Luzerne, died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family.
Warren Wehrman Roth was born May 25, 1921, in Luzerne, to Adolph and Anna Wehrman Roth. He received his education at St. Paul's Lutheran School in Luzerne through the 8th grade.
He married Lillian Polka on Oct. 29, 1947, at St. Michael's Catholic in Belle Plaine. Throughout his life, he loved horses. In his youth, Warren was a race horse jockey. He had several occupations, including farming, Gray Iron Foundry in Marshalltown, and then retired from Wilson Foods in Cedar Rapids, in 1983. After retirement, he trained race horses at Prairie Meadows in Altoona until the age of 80.

Survivors include; daughter Janice (Kelly) Kendall and grandson, David, Luzerne; Warren's beloved companion of 32 years, Delores Rohach, Tama, Delores' family; Luann Kithcart, Toledo, Mike (Diana) Rohach, Garwin, Rick (Alicia) Rohach, Tama, and Nick (Lisa) Rohach, Tama; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; brother-in-law Paul Polka, Tama, and special nieces and nephews; Patti (Bob) Youngman, Tama; Mike (Lena) Polka, New London; Dan (Teri) Polka, Tama; Bill (Brendie) Polka, Des Moines; Angie (Dolan) Van Nevel,Colo.; Marty (Lori) Polka, Des Moines, and their families.
Warren was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian on June 14, 1973; his parents; and brother Lorraine and sister Marguerite, both in childhood.
Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Chelsea, at a later date. Iowa Cremation is in charge of arrangements.*
