Lola M. Simmons, 76, of Grinnell, died on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, at the Mayflower Health Care Center in Grinnell.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. Kalen Barkholtz, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church of Tama, officiating. Casket Bearers will be Andy Heishman, Jim Heishman, Larry Heishman, Larry Jones, Ken Madison and Randy Scdoris. Interment will be at the Sheridan Cemetery near Grinnell.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell beginning 12 noon on Thursday and the family will be present at the funeral home from 6 p.m. to 8p.m. on Thursday.

Lola was born on September 18, 1935, in Grinnell, Iowa to Lester and Emma Graff Luttman. She was raised in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School with the Class of 1953. Following her education she worked as a telephone operator for General Telephone Company in Grinnell.
On Dec. 5, 1954, she was married to Claire Simmons at St. John's Lutheran Church in Grinnell and their wedding ceremony was the first wedding in the Grinnell church. The couple owned and operated a grain and livestock farm in Sheridan Township.
Lola was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Tama and the Sheridan Welcome In Club. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, traveling throughout the United States and attending Iowa Hawkeye football games.
She is survived by two sons, Duane (Carna) Simmons of Keller, Texas and Jerry (Wanda Ervin) Simmons of Argyle, Texas; two grandchildren, Lea and Brad Simmons and two step-grandchildren, Jeff and Jennifer Ely; one sister, Doris (Paul) Jones of Brooklyn; one daughter-in-law, Susan Starling of Thomasville, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one son, Tony Simmons; and one sister, Marilyn Schmidt.*
