Letters to the Editor
The Tama County Humane Society has had a shelter opened for about 3 years now. I have been a volunteer there on Saturdays and have watched the increasing progress continue. There are volunteers there every day of the week all year. I personally do not know all of these volunteers. I do know they do a great job caring, cleaning and loving the sheltered animals brought in and helping in updating the building needs.
It sure would be real nice if there were MORE volunteers that would come for just a couple hours a day/week. All you need to know is how to answer the phone, walk a dog, cuddle a kitten, or have a knack for cleaning. Just leave a message when you can come out with your name/phone# so someone can get back with you at 641-481-7001 or just show up.
More hands make light work for those of us that are sometimes the only person to work that day. Is there any youth programs/clubs that want to earn points for community projects? Maybe you can not have a pet,but you can come love ours and not have to take them home. This in return make our pets adoptable.
Please pass the word on to SPAY/NUETER/VACCINATE all your pets to keep them healthy. Cats breed as fast as rabbits, and we should not be breeding dogs just to get rich. There are plenty of dogs/cats in SHELTERS for everyone for quite some time.
I really enjoy my time volunteering here. I had to promise Rod though, that no pets would come home with me as we already have 2. Please come out for a visit and see our changes and new pets. The TCHS is open every Saturday morning from (9a.m.-12p.m.) plus morning/evenings during the week for feedings/clean-up. We are always needing more supplies, we have a list at the shelter.
Thank you for letting me express my thoughts with you.
