Dorothy was born on Aug.17, 1933, in Toledo, Iowa, the daughter of Charles Burton and LaRoka (Byerly) Whalin.
She graduated from Toledo High School.
On June 4, 1955, she was united in marriage to John “Jack” Vest in Boone, Iowa. Dorothy was formerly a special education teacher helping with handicap children. After raising her family, she became involved with the Kids Corner Daycare from 1981 to 1999, serving as director for 14 years. Dorothy was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church where she was in the choir and CCW. She was in the same bridge group for around 50 years. Dorothy was a great mother adored dearly by her children and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Jack in 2007; and one daughter, Kathleen.
Survivors include her five children, John (Lisa) Vest, Frisco, Texas, Kelly (Jayne) Vest, Newton, Jeffrey (Rachel) Vest, Colorado Springs, Colo., Tony (Patricia) Vest, Corinth, Texas and Angela Vest, Toledo; 11 grandchildren; one sister, Catherine Dexter, Newton; one brother, George “Bud” (Gayle) Whalin of Mendenhall, Miss.; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
