Letter to the Editor:
An article in The Toledo Chronicle, Tuesday, August 9, caught my attention.
“AAUW to Host Jeffrey Copeland!” I read his fascinating book INMAN’S WAR.
Believe me, it is a great story; once started, I could not put the book down.
INMAN’S WAR is a soldier’s story of life in a Colored Battalion in World War li.
The story is based on letters exchanged between Inman Perkins and his sweetheart. Inman Perkins, reared in Iowa, a graduate of the University of Iowa, a soldier who served and excelled in WWII, is a true story that brings laughter, tears, joy, pride, patriotism, anger, love and great friendships to the reader.
The Tama-Toledo AAUW is hosting the author and speaker Jeffrey S. Copeland, professor of English at the University of Northern Iowa, Monday, October 24, at7pm at the Toledo Public Library.
Both Tama and Toledo Libraries ordered copies of INMAN’S WAR through their interlibrary loan system. If persons are interested in reading the book before Dr. Copeland’s presentation, you are invited to obtain a copy to read and return so others may read it before he comes to speak.
It’s a book for all ages and all races. I assure you, it is worth reading.
