Matt is a 2011 graduate of the South Tama County High School. Besides his outstanding academic performance, he has distinguished himself as a leader (President, National Honor Society and member of student council), public speaker
(Thespian Society, speech), athlete (track, soccer, and academic all-state basketball), and musician (piano, concert and jazz band).
He has also been recognized for logging more than 500 hours as a community service volunteer. Over the last four years, Matt helped organize fund-raisers for the Weiting Community Theatre and the “Nothing But Nets” program, which sends malaria nets to Africa. He has coached elementary-aged children in basketball, helped with the 2008 flood-cleanup in Cedar Rapids, supported political campaigns and local church youth groups, as well as played piano at local nursing homes. Matt has been accepted into the University of Iowa’s honors program, where he plans to major in History and Philosophy, with a minor in Music.
Matthew Evans has been awarded an Emerson National Scholarship. Shown above at left is Dorothy Hellberg, Director Educational Services for Emerson Process Management presenting the award to Matt in the presence of his parents Bert and Michelle Evans. Evans plans to attend the University of Iowa.
