Nicholas “Nick” Murty

Nicholas “Nick” Murty, 28, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Marshalltown, died Thursday, July 21, 2011 Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown with Bobby Shomo officiating. Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Monday, July 25, at the funeral home. Memorial may be directed to the family.

Nicholas Duane Murty was born in Marshalltown on June 14, 1983; He was the son of Bill Murty and Linda (Lentner) Davis. He was baptized at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama. Nick attended high school in Marshalltown and then later enlisted in the Navy. He moved to Cedar Rapids where he was employed with Mediacom. Nick loved the Hawkeyes, his collection of over 30 VHS movies, playing cards with family and friends, and NASCAR. Nick will always be remembered for always giving hugs He loved his family, friends, his cat Missy Murty, and most of all, his son Thomas Murty.

He is survived by his son, Thomas Murty, Peosta, Iowa; his cat, Missy Murty; his father, Bill (Margee) Murty, Asbury, Mo; his mother, Linda (James) Davis, Marshalltown; his siblings: Aaron Hulin, Cedar Rapids, Timbre Murty and Dayton Murty both of Asbury, Mo., and Tyrell Davis, Marshalltown; his grandparents: Lawrence (Pat) Murty, Rebecca Murty, Bev Lentner; his many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by Grandfather Duane Lentner, his Uncles, Mike Gunter and Andy Silhanek, and great grandparents.
