James was born July 3, 1937, in Toledo, the son of James A. and Geraldine (Arment) Hanus.
On Dec. 1, 1957, he was united in marriage to Jean Riley at the Tama Methodist Church. James worked construction for Martin Marietta and retired after36 years. He then purchased his own truck and drove for Trailer Transit out of Indiana. He most recently drove for Marty Hoskey until his health began to fail in 2005. James was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Tama. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Alfred Hanus; and a brother-in-law, Harold Fontinel.
Survivors include his wife, Jean of Toledo; four children, Valerie (Gary) Menter of Conrad, Melody (Kendall) Adelmund of Wellsburg, Allen Hanus of Toledo and Peggy (Lee) LaSalle of Tulsa, OK; nine grandchildren, Matt, Nik and Tiffany Scheid, Justin Prusha, Megan Love, Cody and Jim Hanus, Jamie and Heath Krough; six great-grandchildren, Logan, Rilea, Tucker, Faithlyn, Blake and Jordan; one sister, Marilyn Fontinel of Tama; and step-brother, Sam Mattingly of Toledo.
A memorial fund has been established.
